Zaki Turns 1.
This was the first birthday party for my son Zaki. I started sketching down lists of everything and began planning an afternoon party in a marquee. I watched Masterchef a few weeks back and their menu choices.... a challenge was on hand. I channeled my inner Martha Stewart and began preparations.
With an obsession for folding paper and a cupcake master/sister we wanted to create a fun and delicious party with a good-looking cake. I wanted to 'make' something for Zakis cake that involved a paper folded center piece and came across Mammaoca2008's robot. This robot was perfect. The design of the robot is from the magical world of Orliand. The world of Oriland was invented by origami artists Yuri and Katrin Shumakov who create unique paper designs without using glue and scissors.
I was fascinated with the robot and had this crazy robot obsessed look. I loved the concept of twenty-nine cubed models slotting into each other with no liquid adhesive joining the robot parts together. There was loads of creases, sore fingers, 11pm news updates, cold tea and even some help from 'Tweezer-man'. And then one night at 11.45pm I patiently gave my robot limbs, fingers and feet and we were done. And he looked the business. My bright blue butter cream cake was ready and Zaki's paper Robot was placed high on top.
Whats a party without cupcakes? Yells sugar-rush children! So a paper cupcake stand was in order with delicious Devilish Chocolate Cuppies and chocolate ganache icing swirls. Each cupcake was dressed-up with fortune paper hearts and puffy stars. The flags disappeared quickly!
My Dessert Table was a hit!
Zaki had hes first Umbrella Pop, with a strong grip.

It was a wonderful day with family and friends all here to celebrate Zakis first birthday!
I loved making all the bits and pieces and sprucing up the basics.
This was so much fun for me, now to find another party to decorate!
